Why Your
support is needed
The Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services provides base funding to all programs annually through the Lead Agency of Central East Ontario, The Peterborough Child & Family Centres. However schools rely on community support to fill in the remaining gaps. By supporting local student nutrition programs, through donations and volunteering, you are investing in the children and youth in our community and are providing strength and sustainability to these important programs.
Our Local Food Initiative connects Student Nutrition Programs with local farmers, prioritizing farms within 100km of CKL, with the goal of increasing the amount of fresh, healthy, nutritious food available in the programs. We believe in the importance of supporting our local farmers and incorporating locally-grown food in the programs as much as possible, while educating our students about the benefits of eating locally-grown food, where food comes from, and the importance of healthy eating.
Your support is needed to help enhance and expand this amazing initiative. Buying local allows us to stretch our dollars further and make a positive impact on the programs!

Become a
Volunteer

We greatly appreciate the efforts of those who take time to volunteer with a student nutrition program by shopping for groceries, preparing food, or serving meals, and showing children and youth that their communities care. Every school in City of Kawartha Lakes has a nutrition program and could use your help, even for an hour or so every few weeks.
If you would like to volunteer in a school nutrition program, please contact a school in your community or contact us.
