FOOD FOR KIDS

CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES

Our Mission and

Vision

Food For Kids works to ensure all children and youth have access to healthy, nutritious, safe, and personally acceptable food to optimize their learning at school.

ABOUT US

Established in 1999, Food For Kids CKL is a non-profit community partnership that works to ensure all children attend school well nourished as well as promoting healthy eating habits in our children and youth.  These efforts are made possible through the continued support of community members, local businesses, and service clubs who contribute funds or donate nutritious food and other supplies. The Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services provides base funding to all 32 programs in Kawartha Lakes through the Lead Agency of Central East Ontario, Peterborough Child & Family Centres. Student nutrition programs engage many people in local communities by working closely with organizations and individuals in the communities.

One hundred percent of your donations to Food For Kids CKL are used to support student nutrition programs in the City of Kawartha Lakes. Your donations go directly to helping schools purchase healthy and nutritious food as well as kitchen supplies.

Who do we serve?

Student Nutrition Programs are universal, free of charge, and available for all students to access, regardless of their socio-economic background because every child has the right to access healthy and nutritious food at school so they can learn to their full potential.

There are Student Nutrition Programs operating in all 32 schools within the City of Kawartha Lakes region serving over 10,000 students every day in Trillium Lakelands District School Board, Peterborough Victoria Northumberland and Clarington Catholic District School Board, as well as the Boys & Girls Club.

WHY do we serve?

The purpose of Student Nutrition Programs is to support learning and healthy development because when a child is hungry, everything else is secondary.

The most important meal of the day is when a child is hungry. The programs help ensure all children have access to healthy food so they can optimize their learning at school.
